Regenerate Pennine Lancashire has provided integral support to the recent development of Bradley in Nelson, which includes the production of a £2.3 million supported housing scheme.
Regenerate Investment Executive, Chris Standish, worked alongside Pendle Borough Council, Lancashire County Council, the Homes and Communities Agency and Twin Valley Homes (now Together Housing Group) on the production of a focussed regeneration strategy for the area, known as the ‘Bradley Hub’. Regenerate was able to offer advice and direction to facilitate the delivery of a series of projects and the development of a ‘vision document’, setting out the key design principles of the site as well as shared objectives of the projects partners.
The project includes the production of a new Youth and Community Centre for Nelson, alongside supported housing for young people aged 16 to 25. Facilities for residents include IT access and a training kitchen. These provide residents with the opportunity to learn new skills that may help them progress. A communal lounge also helps residents meet new people and overcome feelings of isolation.
The hub is a flagship scheme and underpins the work undertaken by Pendle Council and Regenerate to improve the wider area. This work includes improvements to adjacent houses and small business premises and improvements to a local park, using funding secured via RPL.
Regenerate supported the partners in bidding for funding to enable the development of Bradley to happen. The following funding for the project was secured:
- £250,000 from HMR
- £1.3m from MyPlace
- £450,000 fromLancashireCounty Council and the Youth Capital Fund
- £1.4m from the Homes and Communities Agency
- £200,000+ from Pendle Council/Housing Pendle/Twin Valley Homes
Judith Watmough, Senior Regeneration Officer for Pendle Borough Council, said: “Regenerate Pennine Lancashire were an important part of the team which spearheaded the successful regeneration of the Bradley Hub. All of the partners involved are incredibly pleased with the outcome.”
