Business Overview

Cooke & Mellor Recruitment Ltd, trading as Cummins Mellor Recruitment, was established in 1990 by Richard and Michelle Mellor providing temporary and permanent recruitment services, predominantly for the hospitality and catering industry. This is now a well established and successful recruitment company.  The company operates locally and nationally across a wide range of sectors, including: Hospitality and Catering; Engineering and Manufacturing; IT and Technical; Accountancy and Finance; Sales and Marketing, Purchasing and Supply Chain and Executive and Management.

In 2004, following repeated client requests for CRB disclosures, Personnel Checks was established as a new division and as a registered umbrella body for the Criminal Records Bureau processing CRB checks.  This service was initially offered on an ad-hoc basis but soon demand increased and this caused the company to devote a large amount of resource in manually completing CRB forms.   Cummins Mellor therefore approached Regenerate Pennine Lancashire to help them develop an automated system that would allow checks to be completed electronically and directly with the CRB agency.

Regenerate’s role

The Directors of Cummins Mellor approached Regenerate Pennine Lancashire because of the opportunity to grow Personnel Checks and to improve their administrative processes and systems.  Their administration process was paper based; labour intensive and very time consuming for staff.  The company worked closely with Regenerate to ensure that they had clearly defined processes and could brief potential developers to tender for the project.  Regenerate supported the client to evaluate developer proposals and ensure that the chosen solution was fit for purpose and giving value.  With the project defined Cummins Mellor were helped to obtain Finance for Growth grant totalling £14,000.  This has enabled the company to implement the system that provides a simplified and much more user-friendly process for both administrators and clients and directly connects to the CRB process.  Internal time released by this efficiency has enabled more sales activity and has increased the revenue potential of their staff.
