After talking to hundreds of other Celiac sufferers, Angela concluded there was a clear demand for more choice, information and above all, the freedom to live active healthy lives.
Initially Angela contacted Regenerate Pennine Lancashire for assistance putting together a business plan for Freedom Deli, after a referral from Business Link North West. Angela was assigned a dedicated business advisor, who worked with Angela to create a detailed business plan for her first year of trading.
All of Freedom Deli’s products are produced locally, using as many local ingredients as humanly possible. This currently involves local suppliers who are benefiting from the Company’s product range, making Freedom a truly local enterprise.
Alongside free one-to-one business advice, Angela was also successful in applying for a start up grant of £1,500. This enable Angela to purchase equipment and interact with potential buyers and suppliers by email, providing essential contact through the initial start-up period. This was essential as the majority of start up capital was invested into the purchase of stock.
Angela now supplies her gluten free food to Waitrose Supermarkets and many Independent Retailers and is currently in negotiations with 2 other major retailers. Her business has featured in the Lancashire Life magazine and she has won a prestigious North West Fine Food Award.
The high growth of Freedom Deli has led to embracing new technology such as social media; Angela is now benefiting from further support through the Lancashire Innovation Network by attending social media workshops.
