Business Overview

Gosselin UK Ltd are Europe’s leading manufacturer of laboratory consumables such as petri-dishes, bottles, containers and tubes. The initial enquiry came in via the North West Development Agency, who approached Regenerate’s Land and Property Team for help and advice regarding business premises and potential incentives to set up in the area.

The French parent company was considering establishing a new production facility in either the UK or Spain, to service potential new and expanding markets with a range of medical laboratory products.  The base process involves plastic blow moulding, injection moulding and extrusion techniques mainly using polyethylene, polystyrene and polypropylene as raw material. In addition, the company also provides customers with a range of associated processes including electron beam ionisation, custom labelling and packing.

Regenerate’s Role

The company were advised of various property options and the most suitable was atShadsworthBusinessPark.  Particular considerations were the property footprint and the high power requirement of the manufacturing process.  Regenerate worked with the company and the job centre to help streamline the recruitment and training process and encourage the company to recruit from the locally available workforce.

During this process the company was offered assistance from the NWDA through the Grant for Business Investment initiative and additional support through the Assistance to Industry initiative offered by Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council.  Regenerate officers assisted with the application for financial support with Blackburn with Darwen providing £20,000 towards building modification and machinery cost to secure the investment and jobs in the borough.

Impact

The company in the process invested over £1.8 million, in plant, machinery and property modifications and created 23 full-time jobs with more planned for the future.

Continued support

Regenerate have assisted at all stages through this process advising on property options, financial support mechanisms, recruitment assistance and liaison with appropriate agencies, partners and potential local suppliers.  The business support team continue to provide the company with on-going support.
